The Veterinary Medical Library provides convenient access to research materials for the College of Veterinary Medicine community of students, clinicians, researchers, and scholars. The library maintains resources for veterinary and human medicine, animal health, zoology and other biological sciences.

Visit the Veterinary Medical Library

The Veterinary Medical Library is located on the second floor of Patterson Hall. The building is a secure facility and typically only members of the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) community can enter; however, guests may enter the building using the Public Entrance.

Public Entrance

Guests may access the library during designated hours by visiting the reception desk at the public entrance to the building, located in the flagpole courtyard northeast of Lot 96.

Public Transit

CyRide is the public transportation providing extensive coverage throughout the city of Ames. The Plum Route offers stops near Patterson Hall, with the closest stop being #7750, across from Lot 96 and around the corner of the building from the public entrance.

Driving

Guests who are driving should enter through Christensen Drive from South 16th St and park in Lot 96. The public entrance is through the flagpole courtyard northeast of Lot 96. See Google maps directions to Lot 96.

Parking

Patterson Hall has nearby parking lots.

  • Students: Permitted parking is available. Lot 93 is closest to the public entrance, but students can also purchase permits for 94 and 94A&B, or other nearby Commuter lots.
  • Faculty and staff: Permitted parking is available. Lots 93 (General Staff/Commuter) and 96 (General Staff) are the closest to the public entrance of Patterson Hall.  
  • Visitors: Park in metered visitor parking spaces at an hourly rate of $1.50. The spaces in Lot 96 are the closest to the public entrance of Patterson Hall. You may also request a permit for General Staff Parking Lot 93 or 96 for $5 per day.

Physical accessibility

Entrance: The public entrance in the flagpole courtyard can be reached from Lot 96 using the ramp in the northwest corner of the lot. Handicapped and metered parking spots are nearby. Upon entering the flagpole courtyard, look for entrance B6 near the Gentle Doctor statue. The doors are not automated, but reception staff can help with doors. Guests must check in at the reception desk before continuing on to the library.

Restrooms: Visitors to the Veterinary Medical Library have access to men’s, women’s, and all-gender restrooms in Patterson Hall. The restrooms nearest the library are ADA compliant and equipped with changing tables. Women's restrooms may provide female hygiene products.

Wheelchair accommodations: We offer height-adjustable tables with workstations for wheelchair accommodations.
