As part of Iowa State University's year-long celebration of the life and legacy of Jack Trice, the University Library will host a lecture titled “Trice 100: The Name, The Legacy,” on October 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Reading Room 298 in Parks Library.

Jack Trice, the university’s first Black athlete, aspired to use his education to help Black farmers in the South. Trice was an Iowa State student of animal husbandry, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, and on the Cyclone football and track and field teams.

He suffered severe injuries in his second collegiate football game and died in Ames on Oct. 8, 1923. He was 21.

“Trice 100: The Name, The Legacy," will explore how Iowa State University students rallied support for naming Jack Trice Stadium and how the Trice family continues to grow his legacy via the Trice Legacy Foundation.

The lecture will feature George Trice, executive director and president of the Trice Legacy Foundation, and Jill Wagner, Iowa State student body president from 1975-1976.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will follow the presentation. After 5:30 p.m., free parking is available in lots 21-23, or on Osborn Drive. See map. Paid parking is available at the Memorial Union

The "I will!" letter on display
