Students present Latina/o/x Life Stories: Memoirs and Oral Histories

Students in Latina/o/x Life Stories: Memoirs and Oral Histories (USLS/Span/Eng 377) will exhibit their work from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023, in Room 198 in Parks Library. Dr. Lucia Suarez, Director of U.S. Latino/a Studies Program at Iowa State University received a Miller Teaching Fellowship Grant to design a community engaged, digital archiving class for the 2023 spring semester centered on Latina/o/x Life Stories. The class examined and wrote memoirs and tutored students at Marshalltown High School. Greg Bailey, head of Special Collections and University Archives, visited with the students and gave archives-related presentations. This course engages dynamic, compassionate learning and demonstrates that teaching through multiple partnerships is an effective approach to instruction post COVID.

Join ISU students and Marshalltown High School MUJERES Saturday, May 6, 2023, to celebrate this one-of-a-kind learning experience. The event is open to the public.
