Author: Yen Verhoeven, Rano Marupova, Emily Simmons, Kate Garretson

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how we work and learn, and it’s important to stay informed about what these tools can really do and when it’s appropriate to use them. Research Services staff in the library created an “Everyday AI: Best Practices for Using AI” library guide to help you make these informed decisions.

Guide topics include:

  • Basic definitions for AI
  • How to avoid common pitfalls and misconceptions about AI
  • Ways to evaluate and verify AI outputs
  • Understanding algorithmic bias and how this can affect your research
  • Environmental and societal impacts of using AI
  • Responsible AI use through disclosure statements and proper citation
  • AI resources available through Iowa State University

We’ve included links to the AI Hub at ISU and have curated a list of books and links for those who would like toexplore the topic further. Questions? Contact Rano Marupova at ranomi@iastate.edu.
