Pardon our dust, we're building a better library for you
Iowa State University Library is committed to providing quality resources and spaces that faculty, students and staff need to succeed, and our upcoming projects are a testament to this. While most students are on vacation this summer, Parks Library will be hard at work embarking on two large-scale renovation projects, simotaenoulsy – the Parks Library Common Area Improvements Project and the Bathroom Renovations Project. Both projects will begin mid-May and finish mid-August.
For photos, updates and more about each project, please visit the Parks Library Common Area Improvement Project and Parks Library Bathroom Renovation Project sites. Be sure to visit these sites periodically, as information will be updated throughout the renovation.
1. Parks Library Commons Area Improvement Project – Coming fall 2019
New technology-equipped collaboration rooms, additional study space and more
While most students are on vacation this summer, Parks Library will be hard at work transforming its first floor into a hub for student services and expanding collaboration and study space. The remodeling project will enable the library to improve traffic patterns through the main floor, create six new technology-equipped collaboration rooms, increase individual study spaces and offer a one-stop service experience to meet the needs of students, faculty and visitors. Construction is planned to start mid-May and finish mid-August.
The project will reconfigure areas made available through staff moves and create new group collaboration rooms with interactive displays that combine several functions into one device: a touch/presentation screen, whiteboard and video and audio conference capabilities. This technology enables users to save screenshots to USB drives or memory cards, run Windows applications to work collaboratively or conduct video and audio conferencing.
The renovation will also have a significant impact on the library’s aesthetic. The new open floor plan will increase the amount of natural light and give library users a beautiful view of the West Lawn from the collaboration rooms and study space.
In addition to support from the unviersity and the University Library Strategic Fund, this project was made possible by a generous $200,000 donation from They Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust of Muscatine, Iowa.

The second bank of restrooms at the north end of the 1960s addition will be ready for use mid-August. Construction is planned to start mid-May.
Parks Library is one of the most heavily used buildings on the Iowa State campus, with 12,000+ students visiting every day. Parks Library will be on the growing list of buildings with accommodating and inclusive washrooms.
