Wiley signs transitional Open Access Agreement with Iowa State University
HOBOKEN, N.J. – January 14, 2020 – John Wiley and Sons, Inc. and Iowa State University today announced the signing of a three-year transitional open access agreement, among the first-of-its-kind in the United States. The agreement will advance Iowa State University’s goal to increase open access publishing and expand its open access offerings, allowing peer-reviewed articles to be read and shared immediately, and making important research broadly available.
The multi-year agreement, which will run from January 1, 2021 through 2023, will allow the University to accelerate the number of open access articles it publishes, by increasing its publishing funds toward open access articles in Wiley’s hybrid and gold open access journals. This agreement builds on the University’s current partnership with Wiley, which gives faculty, researchers, and students access to Wiley’s leading portfolio of journals.
“Wiley is proud to expand our partnership with Iowa State University through this transitional open access agreement, particularly as we celebrate our tenth year in gold open access publishing this year,” said Judy Verses, Executive Vice President, Wiley in Research. “By publishing open access, the global research community will be able to learn from, cite, and build upon the research developed by Iowa State University’s leading authors in areas such as genetics, ecology, veterinary science, and engineering.”
“We are extremely excited to further expand the library’s open access publishing support for Iowa State researchers,” said Curtis Brundy, Iowa State University Associate University Librarian for Scholarly Communication and Collections. “In alignment with Iowa State’s land grant mission, this agreement will broaden the impact of Iowa State’s research and ensure it is shared as widely as possible.”
This transitional agreement comes on the heels of Wiley’s acquisition of Hindawi Limited, an innovator and fully open access publisher. The acquisition, which was announced earlier this month, reinforces the company’s commitment to open access and demonstrates Wiley’s strategy to deliver innovative solutions that unlock human potential by enabling the success of the world’s researchers, learners, and professionals.
