Welcome from Dean Beth McNeil
Welcome back to the Iowa State University Library and academic year 2015-16. I arrived on campus to begin my service as Dean of Library Services on July 15, with the same anticipation and excitement that the new school year likely brings for all of you.
Please know as I begin my Iowa State adventure, to lead a talented staff that sees to the daily operation of the Iowa State University Library is an honor for me. Known for providing strong support to students, faculty and staff in all research endeavors, the library will continue this rich tradition. The possibilities are endless, and I am confident the library will remain a hub for campus learning.
Convenience for users is of the utmost importance. The University Library website is available around the clock to locate books, access journal articles, and to discover items in the Digital Repository and special and digital collections. As a friendly reminder, Parks Library open hours are 7:30 a.m. ? 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. ? 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. ? 8 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 ? 5 p.m. Sunday (12:30 p.m. ? 2 a.m. starting Sept. 8). See the?Library Hours?link on the Library website.
In April, the University Library conducted the Ithaka survey of faculty needs. Thanks to ISU faculty participation in the survey, we discovered a wealth of important information, which will inform how we deliver services going forward. Our priority is to remain on the leading edge. We will continue to offer 21st century research and teaching-enhancing resources that complement the strategic initiatives of Iowa State University.
We offer a variety of services for Iowa State researchers. Our goal is to support the scholarly efforts of faculty and staff in new and emerging subject disciplines, publishing, information sharing and broader impacts on the Iowa State campus.
As part of our commitment to service, we are migrating the Library website to the Drupal content management system. Please bear with us as we work to build an agile site structure that will better serve the needs of everyone who uses it.
The goal of our newsletter is to inform you of library news, services, new research tools, instruction opportunities, and events. There are new faces in the library, and we want you to get to know our librarians and staff. Take a moment to discover how they can assist you with your teaching, research, and extension/outreach. Your feedback is welcome, and it will assist our efforts to support your academic endeavors.
I look forward to meeting many of you on campus and welcome your feedback, so please feel free to contact me by email or at 515-294-1443. Additional inquiries may be directed to?Christine King, associate dean for Research and Instruction;?Lori Kappmeyer, interim associate dean for Collections and Technical Services; Hilary Seo, interim associate dean for Curation Services; and Greg Davis, assistant director of Library Information Technology Services.
We appreciate your continued support.
