University Library Coronavirus (COVID-19) Response

Iowa State University is monitoring the outbreak of COVID-19, a disease caused by the new coronavirus. The university’s central source for information about our response to the COVID-19 outbreak is the campus safety page. Please check this website often for updates and answers to frequently asked questions.

All library buildings are closed to the public (students, faculty, staff and community members) – Parks Library, College of Veterinary Medicine Library and Design Reading Room 

As of Monday, March 16 at 1 p.m., all libraries are closed to the public until further notice. In an effort to prioritize the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors, Parks Library, College of Veterinary Medicine Library and the Design Reading Room will remain closed. Bookends Cafe is closed at this time as well.

You can contact your subject librarians with research or off-campus access support questions, or use our Ask Us! Live Chat feature for support 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The chat button is located in the bottom-right corner of the library's homepage. 

Research

Our online databases and other electronic materials (i.e. articles, ebooks, videos and more) will still be available to the public both on and off-campus while the physical library is closed. If you have questions about how to access materials from off-campus, please visit our off-campus access webpage or our Distance Learning guide

Teaching

For instructors teaching online, please consider adding a Library Resources tab to your Canvas page. You can find instructions on this process on our news update

Course Reserves is now located within Canvas. Your students should be able to access any electronic materials you have on reserve directly through your course. Check our Course Reserves webpage for more information about this service. 

Parks Library exterior book drop

The Parks Library book drop will accept returned books until Friday, March 27. After, the book drop will be closed until further notice. Please hold onto your books until you can return them at a later date. 

Doorside Pickup for Interlibrary Loan and Pick From Shelf

If you have requested items through Interlibrary Loan or the Pick From Shelf service, follow the Doorside Pickup instructions below. Pickup hours are 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday, until further notice. Due to the nature of the pandemic, this information may change at any moment. 

  • Once you receive an email alerting you that your item has arrived, follow the instructions below.  
    • Enter the east gate (on Osborn St.) and press the button at the gate.   
    • Tell the parking attendant you are picking up items from Parks Library.   
    • Turn left on Morrill Dr. Parking spots are available to the east of the library.
    • Park in one of the seven green vendor parking spaces, please do not park in the red reserved or handicap spaces. 
    • Come to the south front door of Parks Library and library staff will bring your materials to the door. 

Events and programming

All events hosted by the University Library or in library buildings have been canceled or postponed.
