Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) welcomes visits from ISU students, faculty and staff and offers help with research needs that utilize the rare and unique materials held by SCUA. Archivists work with instructors to develop class projects that incorporate SCUA resources and can provide instruction on primary source research.

SCUA contains over 17,000 linear feet of archival materials, which document agriculture, natural history, statistics, veterinary medicine, the history of the University, and women in science and engineering. Manuscript collections, donated by individuals and organizations, and the University Archives, consisting of official records and faculty papers, together comprise over 1,000,000 photographs, 3,000 artifacts and 10,000 motion picture films. There are 50,000 antiquarian and rare books, which date to 1475, with concentrations in agriculture and the natural sciences.
