Special Collections and University Archives participates in Women's Day event
August 18, 2020, marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The International Women’s Day (IWD) theme, Each for Equal, focuses gender equity, breaking barriers and celebrating the accomplishments of women. Iowa State University Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA) displayed original artifacts at the Ames Public Library IWD event held March 7.
The SCUA artifacts included ribbons, pins and buttons from women’s suffrage organizations. The items belonged to Carrie Chapman Catt, who is known for her work in the women’s suffrage movement and graduated from Iowa State in the class of 1880.
Daniel Hartwig, head of SCUA, was on hand to answer questions and provide context for pioneering efforts of women explored by the Theater Department's HERoic 2019-2020 season.
