Research and Instruction Services news: Welcome new librarians.

Abbey ElderAbbey Elder joined the Iowa State University Library on July 17, 2017, as the new Open Access & Scholarly Communication Librarian. She serves as the librarian for the Anthropology and Sociology departments. Born in Lincoln, Illinois, Abbey received her master?s degree in Information Sciences from the University of Tennessee. Her research interests lie in the areas of Open Educational Resources, Open Access in the Humanities, and Open Monograph Publishing.



Charles YierCharles Yier joined the Library on July 31 as the Social Sciences & Humanities Librarian. Charles has a Bachelor of Arts from Daystar University, Kenya and majored in Communication. He was a newspaper reporter in Nairobi for five years before moving to the U.S. and earning his M.A. in Library Science from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Charles has special training from the Association of College & Research Libraries for Teaching-with-Technology and worked for two years at the University of Iowa Libraries as a Resident Librarian before coming to ISU. Charles will be the librarian for the Greenlee School of Journalism & Mass Communication as well as other, yet to be determined, academic departments.

We are in the process of hiring an additional librarian for social sciences and humanities, so Charles? additional assigned departments will depend on who is hired for that position.

Abbey & Charles will teach library research classes and workshops, staff the Ask Us! service to answer library research questions, and order library materials for their assigned academic departments.
