Librarians, Library Advisory Committee and Faculty Representatives gather for spring meeting

May 10, 2017

On April 18 and 19, the annual meetings of the Library Advisory Committee (LAC), Faculty Department Representatives and Liaison Librarians were held at Parks Library.?The Library Advisory Committee is the primary faculty, student, and staff advisory body to the Dean of Library Services.?The?Faculty Representatives?are appointed by chairs of the academic departments or programs to serve as the conduit between departments and the Library.?Annual meetings are held with librarians to build relationships and maintain communication between the library and faculty.

Faculty Department Representatives play an important role at the University Library. They help coordinate and communicate new or evolving department needs and assist the library with getting the word out about acquisitions and new services.?Information dissemination and communication are important goals of the annual meetings.

Additional information is available on the library website about the?roles?of and contact information for Faculty Department Representatives and?Liaison Librarians.

Associate Professor and LAC Chair Heidi Hohmann?and Dean Beth McNeil welcomed liaison librarians and faculty reps.?Discussion topics included an update on the journal cancellation project and a presentation and conversation around sustainable publishing. Slides will be provided, which we anticipate will be shared department and college wide. We?ve received a variety of thoughtful feedback since we began the cancellation project discussion and look forward to receiving additional input in the coming months. We are working to answer the questions posed at the April meetings and will follow up soon via email with additional information.

In order to cancel 2018 subscriptions, decisions must be made by early September. We need feedback no later than August 15, regarding journal cancellations in your subject area.?Contact Dr. Ed Goedeken, your liaison librarian or Dean Beth McNeil to offer input or ask questions. ?
