Established in 2025, the Linda Shallcross Soukup Library Staff Awards recognize outstanding University Library employees whose innovation, leadership, service, and community impact help advance the library’s mission and enrich campus life at Iowa State University. The awards recognize accomplishments from the prior fiscal year (July–June) or long-term excellence.

Funded through the generosity of Rich and Linda Soukup, the annual awards reflect the couple’s deep appreciation for the library. Linda’s experience as a student worker in the 1960s, where the library provided both financial support and a nurturing environment for learning, inspired this meaningful investment in the dedicated staff who keep the University Library vibrant and essential. The awards are presented each February during the Heart of the Library Awards and Recognition Ceremony.

Nominees are honored for a significant one-time achievement or sustained contribution to the Library or Iowa State University. This includes demonstrated innovation, leadership, or service excellence; having a positive impact on operations, workplace culture, the broader community, or the library profession; and advancement of the University Library’s strategic mission.

Any member of the Iowa State University community, students, faculty, staff, colleagues from other departments, supervisors, or the employees themselves, may submit a nomination. For additional information on the awards and the nomination process, visit the Linda Shallcross Soukup Library Staff Awards page.
