Checked out and recalled books now eligible for interlibrary loan

Jan 17, 2006

Interlibrary Loan's (ILL) policy of not borrowing books from other libraries that are currently checked out from the ISU Library has changed. Users now have two options if a book is listed in the ISU catalog as "checked out" or "recalled":

  • "Request item" - This button is on the lower right hand corner of the catalog record for the book. Select this option if you wish to have the book returned for your use by the ISU user who currently has the book checked out.
  • Interlibrary Loan - Place a request by filling out the ILL request form if you would rather borrow the book from another library.

Research conducted by ISU librarians has shown the delivery speed of both the interlibrary loan service and request item service to be about 7 days.

At this time checked out Reserve books are not eligible for ILL service. These books are placed on Reserve by ISU faculty expressly for the purpose of making them more accessible to users: they can only be checked out for two hours and they cannot leave the Library.
