Biographical note

Founded in New Harmony, Indiana in 1978, the Alliance for Historic Landscape Preservation (AHLP) has since grown into an international organization of professionals from a number of disciplines, including geography, history, horticulture, architecture, planning, public administration, and landscape architecture. The Alliance exists primarily to promote the preservation and conservation of historic landscapes and to facilitate communication among professionals in the field. To these ends, the organization holds annual meetings for members and publishes membership directories, which include the preservation interests and/or recent projects of members. In addition to these activities, the AHLP has undertaken numerous other projects, including several regional workshops for preservation professionals and a joint effort with the National Parks Service to publish guidelines for the treatment of historic landscapes.

In 1991, the AHLP gained incorporation status in the state of Wisconsin as a non-profit organization.

Collection description

This collection consists primarily of extensive planning documents for meetings and conferences and papers and drafts from the Alliance's numerous special projects. In addition, there are AHLP membership directories from 1990-1999 and 2001.

Also included are minutes from the Board of Directors' meetings, as well as records of incorporation, by-laws, and tax-exempt status.
