Abstract
Robert (Bob) Kisken is a retired teacher from Michigan and now does ranch and farm photography as a hobby. After retirement, he has lived in Mobridge, South Dakota and then Glenrock, Wyoming. This collection contains photographs taken by Kisken of barns in the Midwest but also includes some from other states and Canada. The barns cover a variety including kit barns from Sears, Roebuck, and Company; red barns; white barns; cantilever barns; German style barns; round barns; brick and wood barns. Also included are rural scenes including homesteads, grain elevators, prairie scenes, and silos. Photographs were taken by Bob Kisken from 1990-2011. |
Biographical note
Robert (Bob) Kisken was born March 20, 1935 in Tarrytown, New York. Kisken studied at Hope College in Holland, Michigan and received a B. A. (1962) in math from Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois. He later did graduate work in government at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. After working for a year in Cookeville, Tennessee as Assistant Director of Operation Pebble (a program for Appalachian children), Kisken taught math and government in Ann Arbor public schools for almost thirty years (1965-1994). After retirement, Kisken was able to spend more time with his hobby in photography, and does ranch and farm photography. After retirement, he has lived in Mobridge, South Dakota and then Glenrock, Wyoming. |
Collection description
This collection (1986-2011, undated) contains biographical information, reference material on barns, and photographs taken by Kisken of barns in Montana, South Dakota, Michigan, Tennessee, Illinois, Idaho, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri, Washington, Colorado, Ohio, Kansas, Indiana and Wyoming as well as Saskatchewan, Canada. The barns cover a whole variety including kit barns from Sears, Roebuck, and Company; red barns; white barns; cantilever barns; German style barns; round barns; brick and wood barns. A number of the barns are Finnish built. Also included are rural scenes including homesteads, grain elevators, prairie scenes, and silos. Photographs were taken by Bob Kisken from 1990-2011. The collection was donated in honor of Bob Kisken's son, Nate Kisken (1968-2003). |
