Biographical
note
|
|
Suzanne Takken was born in
1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to Clara and Russell Takken. Takken
received her B.S (1947) from the University of Michigan in Geology.
From that time until 1970 she worked as a Petroleum Geologist for
Mobil Oil Corporation in Oklahoma City. After 1970 she became a
consultant in Oklahoma City and worked with petroleum, uranium,
geothermal and construction geology. She was a member of the
American Association of Petroleum Geologists, a past president of
the Oklahoma section of the American Institute of Professional
Geologists and a past president of the Oklahoma City Geological
Society. She pursued graduate studies at the Universities of
Michigan, Oklahoma and Nevada. She stated that the achievement that
she was most proud of was her Honorary Life Membership in the
Oklahoma City Geological Society.
Takken died in

This collection is arranged
into the following series: Slides, 1950-1995, n.d.; Photographs,
1925-1997, n.d.; Papers, 1958-1995, n.d.; Notebooks and Books,
1937-1996, n.d.; Awards, 1956-1996, n.d.; and Artifacts,
1985-1995, n.d.
Series 1, Slides,
contains film slides of Ms. Takken's personal life, her home at Sea
Ranch, geological features, and her vacations. This series also
contains a collection of glass slides of geological features.
Series 2, Photographs,
contains photographs of Takken at all ages, photographs of her
vacations, her home and her colleagues and friends.
Series 3, Papers,
contains correspondence, many documents from Takken's personal and
professional life, family histories and travel plans.
Series 4, Notebooks and
Books, contains extensive chronicling of Takken's personal
account books, appointment books and address books. This series
also contains a signed copy of Takken's Handbook on Petroleum
Exploration.
Series 5, Awards,
contains awards and certificates that Takken won throughout her
life.
Series 6,
Artifacts, contains a wide variety of objects including such
things as computer disks, trilobite fossils and canisters of sand.
