Historical note

 
The Master Farm Homemaker movement was conceived by Dan Wallace, Editor and Bessie Rowe, Woman's Editor of The Farmer's Wife, who sponsored the honoring of five farm women in each of 22 states in 1928, as being outstanding Farm women.  The National Guild of the Master Farm Homemakers was founded in 1929 at Ames, Iowa. 

The Guild has four objectives.  The first objective is to create in the hearts and minds of all farm women of the United States a desire to give unselfish service to their home, their community, their state and their nation.  The reward for this service shall be the highest honor yet bestowed on Farm Women -- Master Farm Homemakers.  The second objective is to promote fellowship among Master Farm Homemakers who have received recognition in the several states.  The third objective is to promote the highest possible standards of living in our American Farm homes.  The fourth objective is to  focus attention on the positive aspects of farm home life.

Membership in the guild is made up of all Farm Women who have been given recognition as a Master Farm Homemaker by The Farmer's Wife magazine or other nationally known magazine or organization in cooperation with the Extension Service of the State Agricultural College.  Master Farm Homemakers must be farm women at the time they are recognized.  Women receiving recognitions, other than Master Farm Homemakers, must be actual farm women at the time of recognition with the major income of the family coming from the farm.   Recommendations for membership come from the State Guild of the National Farm Homemakers and are presented and acted upon at the Annual meeting of the National Guild of Master Farm Homemakers.

The Board of Directors consists of the following officers:  President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  The officers are chosen by ballot at the annual meeting.  Officers serve a three-year term, with no member holding the same office for more than one consecutive term.  Annual meetings of the Guild are held at a time and place chosen by the Board of Directors.

The collection (1927-2002, n.d.) includes the records of the National Master Farm Homemakers Guild.  The materials include Annual Meeting minutes and programs, correspondence, news clippings, financial information, published histories, constitution, and program in honor of John C. Stephenson.
