Biographical note


Ralph Bradley is a native of Canada and received his B.A. (1944) and M.A. (1946) from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He did his doctoral work at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he received his Ph.D. in statistics (1949).

Bradley's professional career has been spent with several institutions: Assistant Professor of Mathematics (1949-1950) at McGill University;  Associate Professor of Statistics (1950-1959) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute;  Rutgers University (Visiting Professor, 1954); University of Cairo (Ford Foundation Program Specialist, 1966-1967);  Professor and Dept. Head for Statistics at Florida State University (1959-1983; Professor Emeritus, 1984- ); and Research Professor of Statistics at the University of Georgia, Athens (1982-1992; Research Professor Emeritus, 1982- ).

Among Bradley's many awards is the R. O. Lawton Distinguished Professorship at Florida State University from 1981-1983.  In addition, he was elected a fellow of the American Statistical Association in 1957, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics in 1961 and the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1963. In 1970, Bradley was elected a member of the International Statistical Institute.

Bradley has published extensively throughout his career, including over thirty-five articles since 1981.

 

Collection Description


The collection (1955-1993, n.d.) contains manuscripts, correspondence, speeches, and publications.  The correspondence and speeches document Bradley's tenure as President of the American Statistical Association and his committee service in the association.  The publications document the use of computers in statistical analysis in the early 1980s.
