Historical note
In June 1967, a group of approximately 300 scientists interested in reproductive biology met in Urbana, Illinois, and voted to establish the Society for the Study of Reproduction (SSR).  The SSR’s purpose is to promote the study of the biological and medical aspects of fertility and reproduction by fostering interdisciplinary communication.  It holds annual conferences and publishes the journal Biology of Reproduction three times a year.  The organization is governed by elected officers including an overseeing committee.  Membership is open to professionally qualified workers with an interest in this field, at the discretion of the Overseeing Committee.

  

Collection description

The collection (1962-[ongoing]) contains records associated with the function and activities of the Society for the Study of Reproduction.  Included within the collection are annual meeting information, committee records, correspondence, financial records, presidential files, and publications.  The collection also includes historical information on the Society, photographs of members and events, and material related to Society-sponsored symposia and programs.

The Society also produced a number of videotape recordings of speakers and workshops at annual meetings.  Appendix I contains a listing of these videotapes along with their ISU Library call number.
