Collection description
|
|
The collection (1901, 1907) contains two obituaries of Asenath
Hampton Gable and a copy of her "Biographical Sketches of the
Hampton and Gable Families." She wrote these sketches in 1901 and
gave a handwritten copy to each of her children as a token of her
love. The copy in this collection was presented to her second
youngest child, Mearl Arthur Gable.
The biographical
sketches tell not only of the Gables' ancestry, but also of their
life including the hardships as well as the high points and how they
were sustained by courage and by faith. A substantial portion of
this family history was published in the book Pure Nostalgia,
edited by Carl Hamilton (Ames, Ia.: Iowa State University Press,
1979; Archives call no. CT 234 P87). |
