On 5 May 1928 a meeting was called by the
Grinnell College chapter of the American Association of University
Professors (AAUP) in connection with the annual meeting of the Iowa
Academy of Science for the purpose of establishing a State
Conference of AAUP Chapters. The suggestion first came from Dr. E.
S. Allen of Iowa State College (University). It was voted to elect a
chairman, secretary, and three additional persons to constitute an
executive committee who were instructed to arrange for a meeting the
next year and to propose plans for a permanent state organization.
Officers elected were Chairman E. S. Allen, Iowa State College
(University); Secretary Henry S. Conard, Grinnell College; and
Committee, H. M. Kelly, Cornell College; L. W. Smith, Drake
University; and E. W. Bartow, University of Iowa. |

The collection (1928-1979, n.d.) includes the
organization's constitution and amendments, correspondence,
financial records, minutes and meeting information, committee
records, membership information, information about Iowa AAUP
chapters, and subject files on topics including academic freedom,
faculty rights, and collective bargaining. The collection also
includes material related to national AAUP conferences, regional
conferences, and other states' conferences. |
