In 1972, farmers in Boone, Dallas, and Webster
Counties, Iowa, began protesting the construction of high voltage
transmission lines by the Iowa Power and Light Company. The farmers
filed lawsuits in Iowa courts and were involved in hearings before
the Iowa Commerce Commission to prevent the installation of the
power lines along a route that the farmers felt hindered their
farming |

Collection description

The collection (1971-1979, n.d.) consists of
records documenting the efforts of farmers in Boone County and other
central Iowa counties to prevent the construction of high-voltage
transmission lines along a route which would be detrimental to
farming. The collection contains a wide variety of legal records,
including easements, appeals, briefs, motions, correspondence,
notes, maps, arguments, and testimony. |
