Historical
note
|
|
The Tilden Store began as Bigelow, Huntington and
Tilden on 15 April 1869 in Ames, Iowa. That firm was dissolved in
1884, and George Tilden continued on alone. Primarily a clothing
store, it remained in the Tilden family until it went out of
business in 1971. In addition to remaining a family business for
over a century, the store also remained at the same location on Main
Street in downtown Ames throughout its existence. |
