Carver formed a lifelong friendship with Louis H. Pammel during his years in Ames.   After Carver left Iowa State in 1896, he and Pammel corresponded until just before Pammel's death in 1931.  Carver's letters to Pammel are included in the Louis H. Pammel Papers, held in the Special Collections Department at Iowa State University.
