Christian Petersen on campus
art:
"Regionalism is the
bunk, Petersen said, laughter wrinkles around his eyes.
That is putting it crudely, perhaps. Of course my own
work is regional in that it uses the materials of the lives of
Iowa and middlewestern people. It is natural that the
artist uses the material around him. But I do not use a
different style or work on eccentric principles because of the
regional subject matter, he explained. Petersen
hopes to make his sculptures a part of student life on
campus. He feels that agricultural and science students
need a knowledge of and appreciation of art. He hopes
that his sculptures will become as much a part of the
student's life after graduation as the campanile." Interview
