CHA-KI-SHI
(A Little Bear in a Den with Room only for Itself)


Cha-Ki-Shi was published in 1936 by authors Halla Rhode (Director of Indian Studies: Historical, Memorial, and Art Department of Iowa) and Bessie Coon (Classroom teacher: Public Schools, Des Moines, Iowa), and illustrated by Christian Petersen.

This textbook details the lives of Native Americans for children, and is based on the lives of the Mesquakie (Fox) located in Tama, Iowa.
