The next annual meeting of the Consortium of Iowa Archivists will be held on September 12, 2008 at the Mason City Public Library, Mason City, Iowa.

The schedule will be:

8:30-9:00: Arrival--social with coffee and treats

9:00-10:15:
Jerome Thompson, State Curator--State Historical Society of Iowa

From Freemont to Allamakee and Lee to Lyon County, Iowa has over four hundred local historical organizations.  Each has collections to recall their local history.  Most of these organizations are all volunteer and operate on less than $10,000 per year.  Jerome Thompson, State Curator with the State Historical Society of Iowa, has worked with many of these groups.  He will speak about some of the challenges faced by these local preservationists and identify what assistance is required if these local collections are to survive.
