RECORD GROUP 3: RETENTION SCHEDULE PROVOST The Provost, through Deans and Directors, coordinates and administers the academic and personnel policies of the University. The Provost is directly responsible to the President. The Provost Office was created in 1988 as a reorganization of the office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. In 2002, the title of Vice President for Academic Affairs was added to the title of Provost. 3/1 PROVOST

3/3 HONORS PROGRAM The Honors Program was established on a university wide basis in 1960. The program was expanded in 1975 with the establishment of the Freshman Honors Program. The Honors Program offers as opportunity for qualified students to develop and individualized program of study to enable them to obtain maximum benefit from their undergraduate careers. Each undergraduate college operates its own honors program with a college committee responsible for its administration. The chairs of the college committees compose the University Honors Program Committee, which is responsible for general coordination and policies for the Honors Program. Coordinators:
3/4 INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS In 1988, the position of Executive Director for International Affairs was created. The office was created to reflect the increased emphasis on international programs and coordinate all University efforts in this area. The World Food Institute and the International Student and International Studies programs are administered through this office. Executive Directors:
The Executive Director of for International Affairs position was eliminated effective June 30, 1993. Office of International Education Services (OIES) Beginning in 1977 the OIES began a joint reporting structure, reporting to the Provost and to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Prior to 1977 the office reported to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. From 1991 to 1999 the official name was the Office of International Students and Scholars. The Office of International Students and Scholars was renamed the Office of International Education Services (OIES) on July 1, 1999. Directors:
World Food Institute The idea for the World Food Institute was originally recommended in 1969 by the Committee on International Programs after two years of study. In 1972, the Institute was established to focus upon the provision of adequate and nutritious food supplies for the world's peoples through research and education. The World Food Conference of 1976 was a project of the Institute. The Institute sponsors an undergraduate course on world food problems through university studies, seminars, faculty projects, an annual World Food Institute lecture, World Food Institute Distinguished Foreign Scholars and International Fellows. The World Food Institute ceased to exist on July 1, 1993. Directors:

3/6 WOMEN'S CENTERThe Margaret Sloss Womens Center was established in 1981 to provide a centralized home for women's organizations. The Center is located in the Sloss House providing meeting rooms for organizations to hold discussions, forums and meetings. Directors:
3/7 EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP) The program was established in 1983 to help faculty, professional and scientific and merit staff and their families with problems which may hinder employee job performance. The Coordinators:
After the resignation of Charlene Gooch in 1996 the university discontinued the permanent staffing of the Employee Assistance Program, and contracted with an outside source to provide Employee Assistance Program services. At that point in time the Office of Human Resource Services became responsible for the administration of the program and works with an advisory board (the EAP Committee). 3/8 OFFICE OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND DIVERSITY (formerly the Affirmative Action Office)Affirmative Action is a federal program intended to identify and remove discrimination in employment. The University's affirmative action plan was drafted in 1972. The following year the Affirmative Action Office was established to assist administrators in their efforts to comply with the program. The program is responsible to the U.S. Departments of Labor, Education, and Health an Human Services. The office also handles discrimination complaints. The name of the office was changed in 2001.
