Reserve and Media Services (RMS)
(2 Parks Library)

Supervisor: Deborah Kester, 02 Parks Library, (515) 294-4958, dkester@iastate.edu

Hours: Hours of operation for the Reserve and Media Services area vary slightly from general building hours and are posted on the door and under Library Hours.

Description: Reserve and Media Services is located on the lower level of the Parks Library (Room 2). Patrons will find books and non-print materials assigned by instructors as supplemental, required materials for course work. RMS also houses audiovisual materials for leisure use, and the equipment needed to use those items. All faculty submissions for reserve and electronic reserve are processed at this site. Organizationally, Reserve and Media Services is part of the ISU Library's Research & Access Services Division.

Collections:
The audio-visual collection represents a wide range of subjects: educational and feature films in NTSC and PAL format, audio books and a wide array of classical and contemporary music. Supported equipment includes 1/2" VHS video, DVD, audiocassette, audio compact disc, slides, and IBM multimedia applications. All equipment is for in-house use only. Audio-visual materials not on course reserve can be located through the Library Catalog.

All course reserve materials are listed via Reserve and Courses A-Z under "Classes and Tours" on the Library homepage. Instructor submission forms, policies for paper, electronic and audio-visual reserve items, copyright and other information are also available.

Circulation policies:
The standard ISU picture ID (ISUCard) or Library Visitor Card must be presented at check-out to use RMS materials
.

Course reserve materials: Books and paper material circulate on a "first-come, first-served" basis for 2 hours in the Library only. DVD, slides, video, and all audio-visual material circulate for 3 hours and must be used in RMS.  Instructors requiring these items for face-to-face teaching may borrow audio-visual material for 3 days by scheduling them through the Library Catalog. All material must be returned to the RMS desk.

Audio-Visual materials: DVD, slides, video, and all audio-visual material circulate for 3 hours and must be used in RMS. CD-ROM, computer software, compact discs, and audiotapes not on reserve, can be used in-house, or if the patron prefers, checked-out for 4 weeks. Some DVD/Video items have been designated as "PARKS Media Leisure Collection" in the Library Catalog. These items circulate for 3 days only and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of the short-term nature of the loan, holds, recalls and renewals are not allowed. Borrowers can have no more than three titles checked out at any given time.

Fines:
Overdue charges for items on course reserve accrue at $2.00 per hour (or portion of an hour) per item. Charges accrue whether the Library is open or closed with the maximum set at $40.00 per item. All material must be returned to the RMS desk.

Media items that are not on reserve circulate for either 3 hours or 4 weeks, depending on format. Items that circulate for 3 hours have an overdue fine of $.50 per hour per item that accrues to a maximum of $10.00 per item. Items that circulate for 4 weeks have an overdue fine of $.50 per day per item that accrues to a maximum of $10.00 per item.

Media Leisure items have a fine of $1.00 per item per day and begin to accrue on the first day following the due date. Routine fines accrue to a maximum of $10.00 per item.

For all fines: If an overdue fine is not paid at the time an item is returned, the amount of the fine plus a $3.00 billing fee per item will appear on the patron's next University bill.

Replacement costs and current processing fees are charged for lost or damaged material.
