Multimedia production stations - Policies and procedures
Multimedia Production Stations are intended primarily for use by ISU students, faculty, and staff, but are available to other library users as time and resources permit. This equipment is intended for educational and research purposes only, and use of the equipment for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited. Misuse of this equipment may result in loss of privileges as well as possible disciplinary action.
Users may sign up for the Multimedia Production Stations in one hour blocks (six hours maximum) at the Help & Information Desk. You may use only one workstation at a time, and must remain at the workstation while it is in use.
Library staff will monitor the workstations, facilitate access, and prioritize usage as needed. Projects requiring hardware or software unique to the Multimedia Production Stations will take precedence over projects that can be completed elsewhere in the Parks Library.
Do NOT alter the wiring between the monitor, decks and converter. You can unhook the front RCA jacks on the SVHS deck to input from your own source unit, but take care to replace the standard wiring back after use.
Please allow enough time to finish your project, clean-up after yourself, and store your materials BEFORE your allotted time has expired, and WELL BEFORE the Library closes. If your project is not completed when the library closes, security personnel will ask you to leave, and cannot be responsible for unfinished projects. (Rule of thumb for estimating the time needed for a project: two times the run time of the input piece plus 30 minutes.)
The D: (Windows) and Temp: (Macintosh) drives are available to store projects in between your sessions. Simply create a folder and name it with your NetID on the D: or Temp: drive, then save your project to that folder. The D: and Temp: drives are automatically cleared/cleaned out between midnight on Sunday and 10AM on Monday morning, or whenever they become full. There are no exceptions to this rule. Remember that the D: and Temp: drives are public drives that anyone can access, use, or abuse. Please be sure to make a backup of your work before you terminate your current session, and definitely before the regular Monday morning file purge.
