Computers and Computer Labs

Public computers are available in a variety of locations in the Parks Library and branch facilities, including labs, bookstacks, and study areas. All public computers provide access to the e-Library and Internet. All are equipped with USB ports to accommodate flash drives. Some also provide specialized hardware/software features, and/or printing capability. See the current list of public computer locations for more detailed information.

Please also consult the Library's Guidelines for the Use of Public Computers for information regarding the legal, ethical, and responsible use of the Library's computing equipment.

The User Education Lab (Room 32, Lower Level, Parks Library) is used by Library faculty for teaching. When the lab is not being used for this purpose, it is accessible to other library users. All PCs in the User Education Lab provide access to the e-Library and the Internet, as well as the Microsoft Office suite, JMP statistical software, and SciFinder Scholar. PCs in this lab are networked to a laser printer on the north wall of the lab, and also to a photocopier in the Lower Level corridor, allowing for printing at a cost of 10 cents per page.

A large cluster of PCs in Room 198A (Floor 1 east, Parks Library) also provides access to the e-Library and the Internet, as well as Microsoft Office, JMP, and SciFinder Scholar. PCs in this cluster are networked to laser printers in the same room. Eight computers at the south end of this room have internal zip drives: four machines with 750mb drives, and four with 250mb drives.

Computers in the Multimedia Production Studios (Floor 1; west wall of the Learning Connections Center) serve as multimedia production stations, allowing users to create media products like VHS tapes or DVD disks for class assignments or presentations. The studios include both Windows-based and Mac-based equipment.
