TRAIL a collaborative library effort (including the Iowa State University Library), is dedicated to saving mid-twentieth century government-sponsored technical reports from obscurity through digitization. TRAIL identifies, acquires, catalogs, digitizes, and provides unrestricted access to U.S. government agency technical reports.?Two government agency publication series were recently digitized and added to TRAIL:?Office of Saline Waters and Atomic Energy Commission.

Office of Saline Waters (OSW),?Research and Development Progress Reports?series?issued from 1955 to 1972 have been digitized. These technical reports are valuable resources for?research topics including desalination, salt water corrosion of metals, and water resource policy, among others. A two-page piece, created by TRAIL member Scott Curtis, describes the collection content in more detail.??

AEC Reports on Early Nuclear Research Digitized

Over 5000 Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) reports from the 1940s and 1950s are accessible online in the TRAIL database. Issued by research sites including Argonne National Laboratory, Los Alamos, and Oak Ridge, these are invaluable for research on the historic development of the atomic bomb and nuclear energy resources in the U.S.
