Research Services news: Browse scholarly journals with Browzine.
Have you tried BrowZine yet for keeping up with your scholarly journals? Do you know you can create a personal My Bookshelf account to follow your favorite titles and be notified when new articles become available?
BrowZine is available in both a Web version and an app (for Apple or Android smart phones and devices) that helps with perusing current issues of scholarly electronic journals available through the ISU Library in a beautiful visual display. Browzine sorts ISU's e-journals into broad subjects and then into narrower disciplines. Save and organize your most-used e-journals on virtual bookshelves saved to your free account. The result is an easy and familiar way to browse through, read, and monitor scholarly e-journals across disciplines.
Mobile version: download the free app using either Google Play or the Apple App Store. It is available for Kindle Fire HD Tablets using the Amazon Appstore for Android.
Open the app, the first screen asks to select your library – pick Iowa State University. The system will prompt the user to log in with the last 11 digits of the ISUCard and a library password. If a password isn’t set or is unknown, visit the Set your Library password page.
To create an account: select My Bookshelf and follow the steps to create the account. Users do not need to use an ISU email address – any valid email address will work. Wait for email verification and click on the link in that message to enable the account.
Add To My Bookshelf: Once the account is created, search for journals by title, subject, or ISSN. Add journals to your bookshelf by selecting Add To My Bookshelf.
Web version: visit http://www.browzine.com
From On-campus computers: the screen will already show an “Iowa State University” logo. Browse the available journals from that screen. Follow the directions below to create an account and save specific journals to your account/bookshelf.
From Off-campus computers: Click Choose My Library and then select Iowa State University. A pop-up window asking for login information. Using the ISU borrower ID (the last 11 digits on the ISU ID) and library password. Note the link to set your library password if you have not yet created one (or cannot remember what it is).
To create an Account: Go to Settings. Under BrowZine Account, click Login. Click Sign up to create an account. Users do not need to use an ISU email address – any valid email address will work. Wait for an email verification and click on the link in that message to enable the account.
Add To My Bookshelf: Once the account is created, search for journals by title, subject, or ISSN. Add journals to your bookshelf by clicking on a journal, then clicking Add To My Bookshelf.
NOTE: Browzine has a fairly large inventory of journals, but it is not able to provide a Table of Contents for every journal that the Library subscribes to for ISU researchers. BrowZine has relationships with these academic journal publishers, so journals included in that group and published since 2005 should be viewable.
