Planet vs. Plastics

Earth with plastic bottles

Earth Day 2024 is April 22, and the theme is Planet vs. Plastics. In honor of this event, EarthDay.org has committed to “end plastics for the sake of human and planetary health, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of ALL plastics by 2040” and the elimination of single-use plastics by 2030.

During April, there is a book display in Parks Library lobby to help raise awareness and showcase a variety of related themes including: plastic pollution, bioplastics or biodegradable plastics, fast fashion, edible packaging, microplastics, recycling, single-use plastics, waste minimization, and zero waste. The accompanying Library Guide includes interactive quizzes, links to videos and electronic books on these topics, search tips to find additional resources, and a link to the full book list via Zotero.

EarthDay.org also provides ideas for how to become more informed and involved. See the EarthDay 2024 Action Tool Kit and their full list of specialized toolkits.

Post what you are doing this Earth Day and make sure to tag #EarthDay and/or #PlanetvsPlastics to possibly be featured on the EarthDay.org social channels.
