Open Access Publishing

Mar 08, 2017

??Open Access is the free, immediate, online availability of research articles, coupled with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment.??-?Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC)

There are several forms of open access:

  • Fully open access journals (i.e., all content is open access)
  • Hybrid open access journals (i.e., subscription publications that offer an open access option for an additional fee)
  • Open access repositories (like?the Iowa State University Digital Repository)

At Iowa State, the Library assists scholars with promoting their work through the?ISU Digital Repository. Faculty can send their CVs to?digirep@iastate.edu?and library staff will check publisher permissions and copyright clearance for publications.

There are many advantages to depositing scholarship into the ISU Digital Repository:

  • Greater visibility and impact
  • Scholarship available to a wider, global audience
  • Detailed readership statistics
