Library Closing Results in Significant Energy Savings
The University Library was recently one of 55 campus buildings that closed or partially closed for an 11 day period during winter break. With much planning and support from library staff and the University community this shutdown proved to be an extremely successful endeavor. The energy savings for the Library were approximately $1100 per day for 11 days resulting in $12,100 in energy savings. This represented a 65% energy reduction over normal occupied times within the Parks Library. Iowa State saved an estimated $120,000 campus-wide during the partial shutdown, with approximately 10% of the savings gleaned from the University Library.
