Redesigned Interface for PubMed Released by the National Library of Medicine
09-Dec-2009 Newsletter article

At the end of October, a significantly redesigned interface for PubMed was released by the National Library of Medicine. One of the biggest changes is the disappearance of the five tabs (Limits, Preview/Index, History, Clipboard, Details) that were prominently displayed on the old interface. The functionalities that were associated with the five tabs have been relocated to different areas of the new interface.

Click on "Advanced Search" to construct more advanced search queries; many of the former tab features are on the "advanced search" page. "Preview", "Details" and "Search History" are noted in the following screenshot. Note that "Publication Date" is no longer a "Limit". The publication date field is included as a searchable field.

As you scroll down the page, you'll notice the "Limit by Topics, Languages, and Journal Groups" section.

The redesign also incorporates direct links to NCBI resources. Links can be found at the top and bottom of the PubMed homepage.

The former interface also included a tab that showed the number of review articles retrieved. This information about review articles is now located on the right-hand side of the page after a search is executed. Additional filters can be selected in "MyNCBI."
