National Academies Press E-Book Collection

Over 4,000 books and reports published by National Academies Press are available in electronic format as PDF files for free. National Academies Press publishes over 200 books annually on a wide range of topics in science, engineering, and medicine and researchers are encouraged to use the ebook collection to download them, either as individual chapters or entire books, instead of paying more for a physical copy. There are a few exceptions - a small number of old reports and part of the series "Nutrient Requirements of Domestic Animals" do not have PDF options available. Just look for the Download link below the purchase button when on the book's page in the NAP website: http://www.nap.edu/

Free ISO and IEC Standards Access for Classroom Use

ANSI offers engineering faculty an opportunity to use a number of normally expensive standards for free in-class use. This program is called the American National Standards Institute's University Outreach Pilot Program. According to their webpage, ANSI "will provide free access to faculty and students to any defined group of standards currently available in the collections of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which contain nearly 20,000 standards." To sign up for this free access, university faculty need to fill out an online form that talks about the class and how the class would use the standards.
