Yes, the Library Catalog is freely accessible over the World Wide Web.
Which Library databases (indexes, abstracts, etc.) can I use from off-campus?
Many of the Library's subscription databases are licensed for remote use by members of the ISU community. These are identified with an "ISU Community" label or icon. Other databases are freely available to all; these are labeled "WWW accessible." A small number of databases are available only on workstations on the ISU campus, or within ISU Library facilities, or within the Parks Library Reference Area; these are labeled accordingly. For more information, see Indexes & Abstracts and e-Reference Sources.
Can I use electronic journals and e-books from off-campus?
Some electronic journals and e-books are licensed for remote use by members of the ISU community. Others, identified as “WWW accessible,” are freely available to all users. For additional information see Library Services for Remote Users.
How do I get help if I am having trouble connecting?
To access some resources remotely, you will be prompted to login with your ISUCard number and Library pin#. If your ISUCard number is not accepted, make sure you have entered it correctly, without any spaces or hyphens. If you need to set or reset your 4-digit pin#, see the Set your Library pin# instructions. If problems persist with your ISUCard number or pin#, contact the Parks Library Circulation Desk supervisor (CircDesk@iastate.edu; (515) 294-3961).
If your login is successful but you receive error messages from the remote site, you may be behind a firewall which will not allow connections on the ports used by our proxy server connections. The remote site may also be out of service or unavailable. Please try again later. If the problem persists, send an email to the e-Library webmaster. Please note that if the problem lies with the remote site, we can report the problem, but will be unable to resolve it ourselves.
