How do I..? -- Borrow Library Materials

How do I check out a book?	Many library materials located in the Parks General Collection can be checked out at the Circulation Desk by using an ISUCard or an ISU Library Visitor Card. Materials from other service points such as Map Room or Vet Med Library are checked out from their service desks with the ISUCard or an ISU Library Visitor Card. Not all library materials can be checked out.
How long can I keep the books I check out?	In general, books from the ISU Library are loaned to ISU undergraduates, merit employees, and Visitor Card holders for a period of four weeks. Faculty, graduate students, honors students, and Professional and Scientific staff are given an "extended" loan, with items falling due at the end of the current academic year (i.e., the last day of Spring Semester). All library material is subject to recall after two weeks when needed by another patron. Items in the Leisure Collection can be checked out for four weeks only, regardless of the status of the borrower. Other types of materials, such as Reserve and Media items, may have other applicable loan times.
How do I renew a check-out?	You can renew items either in person or online, although limitations apply to online renewals (see next paragraph). Telephone renewals are not possible. To renew an item in person, bring the item iot the Circulation Desk, along with your ID card. To renew an item online choose Library Catalog in the e-Library header; then select My Account from the left-hand sidebar, and follow instructions. All items loaned for one day or more can be renewed online, except for Leisure Media (i.e., popular DVD and VHS titles). You cannot renew an item if someone else has placed a recall or a hold on it, or if it is overdue. You are limited to three consecutive online renewals for any given item; after that, you will need to present the item physically for renewal.

Select My Account from the left-hand sidebar. Then follow instructions. You can also view your current address information, outstanding fines, and holds and recalls. You will need to enter your borrower ID (the number on your ISUCard, or ISU Library Visitor Card), plus your Library Catalog pin#, to access any of this information.
Can I get a list of what I currently have checked out?	A list of materials you have checked out is available electronically. To access this list, choose Library Catalog from the e-Library homepage.
