Finding articles using a citation

Indexes help you find out if there are articles available on your topic. But when you already have the full citation to an article, your question then becomes, how can I get this article? In other words, does the Library own the journal in which this article was published? Search the Library Catalog anytime you need to know what the Library owns, whether it's a print or online journal.

1. Look at your citation, and find the name of the journal. Example:

Worcester, Thomas. A DEFENSIVE DISCOURSE: JESUITS ON DISEASE IN SEVENTEENTH-CENTURY NEW FRANCE. French Colonial History 2005 6: 1-15.

2. Search the journal name in the Library Catalog. To make your search more focused, use a Serial Title search. Note - don't search the name of the article, but the name of the journal.

3. Match the year, volume number & issue of your citation to the Library's holdings, whether the journal is print or electronic. Our citation example is from volume 6, year 2005 of an electronic journal. Following the link in the Library Catalog, we would select that volume to browse contents online and find the article.

But what if the journal you need is not listed in the Library Catalog?
