Description: Resource Sharing staff provide three primary services:
- Interlibrary loan-borrowing service:
ISU students, faculty, staff, associates, Library Visitor Cardholders, and others may request a wide range of materials that are not available in the ISU Library collections, including books, journal articles, newspaper microfilm, instruction-related audio-visual materials, dissertations and theses, etc.
- Document Delivery Service: Individuals (ISU and non-ISU) and organizations without formal libraries can place requests for materials available in the ISU Library without going through another library.
Interlibrary Loan-Borrowing and Document Delivery Service requests can be submitted via a single web form:
Fulfillment of borrowing and document delivery requests can be anywhere from 1 to 7 days. The exact day of receipt by the requestor cannot be predicted in advance nor guaranteed. Depending on a number of factors, materials may be delivered very quickly or take several days. Copies of articles are typically delivered faster than loans of original material. Scanned articles are often delivered in 1-2 days.
Requested materials can usually be supplied to anyone affiliated with the Iowa State University Library at no charge. If a fee is necessary, it will be cleared with the requestor ahead of time. For anyone without an ISU affiliation, there will be a fee for all services provided.

- Interlibrary loan-lending Service:
Libraries from around the world submit requests to the Iowa State University Library to lend ISU-owned materials. Requests are routinely received from three online ordering systems: OCLC, Rapid and Silo. For other ordering options, libraries should contact ISU Resource Sharing staff. Non-ISU users may be able to obtain materials held in the ISU Library at little or no cost by going through their local library and accessing the interlibrary loan-lending service.
