B. University Library Mentoring Program
Call for Mentors sample message:
The Library's mentoring program for new librarians matches new, academic librarians and tenure-eligible faculty with experienced librarians or faculty members who provide advice, support and guidance as the new librarian acclimates to his or her position at Iowa State University. The program requires that mentors provide sustained mentoring over several years, with the most substantial commitment occurring throughout the first three years of the new librarian's appointment. Mentors are also asked to take particular care in helping new librarians prepare for both annual performance reviews and the academic librarian promotion process or faculty promotion and tenure review.
We currently only have X new librarians who need mentors: ________ and _________. This memo serves as a general call for senior librarians who are interested in serving as mentors in this program. To be eligible to serve as a mentor, a librarian must be a Librarian II, III, or IV, or must be a library faculty member.
If you would like serve as a mentor, please contact me no later than [date]. A meeting of potential mentors and new librarians will be scheduled shortly thereafter. Keep in mind that the Academic Librarian promotion process requires outcomes in external professional practice service (e.g. state or national committees or leadership roles) OR research and scholarship.
Please also feel free to contact me for additional information on the Library's Mentoring Program.
