  • Rano Marupova presented a paper she and Susan Vega García have written called "Library Research and Information Literacy in the Age of Google:  Collaborations between Instructors and Librarians," at the International Conference on Innovation in Higher Education, held in Kiev, Ukraine, May 16-19, 2003.  Rano is Program Assistant to the Commons.
     
  • Steve Johns and Susan Vega García attended ISU's 5th Annual Learning Communities Institute, to promote the Instruction Commons, Library 160, and Learning Community collaborations with subject specialist librarians, May 12-13, 2003. 
     
  • Information literacy initiatives was the subject of a panel presentation at the 11th National Meeting of the Association of College & Research Libraries, held April 2002 in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Susan A. Vega García was one of the panelists, along with research librarians from other institutions who described their information literacy programs.  Susan presented on the Commons and information literacy at ISU.

  • The Center for Teaching Excellence sponsored two successful faculty workshops by Rebecca Jackson and Dru Frykberg this August 20, 2002, on the topic of Deterring and Detecting Plagiarism.  The web guides on dealing with plagiarism are featured in the Instruction Commons Guides.  Rebecca is the head of the Social Sciences & Humanities department of Parks Library, and Dru is the librarian for ISU's Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication.

  • Steve Johns promoted the Commons and library research skills to Peer Mentors for ISU Learning Communities, as a part of their August 2002 training.  Steve is Program Associate for the Commons, and Instructional Technology librarian for the ISU Library.

  • The Instruction Commons: Information Literacy, ISU Library Outreach & Learning Communities, a multimedia poster session for the ISU 4th annual Learning Communities Institute, presented by Susan Vega García and Steve Johns.  Oscar Salazar also designed a terrific poster to promote the Commons.  Susan and Steve staffed the ISU Library booth and promoted both the Instruction Commons and Library 160 to attendees and Learning Communities participants, May 13-14, 2002.  

  • The ISU Instruction Commons and Information Literacy  peer-reviewed presentation by Commons Program Coordinator Susan A. Vega García, as part of the Information Literacy Best Practices panel, at the Iowa Library Association / Association of College & Research Libraries Spring Conference, April 19, 2002.  Susan is a member of the ILA/ACRL Information Literacy Ad hoc Committee. 

  • The Instruction Commons: An Information Literacy Initiative at ISU, an international, peer-reviewed conference presentation and handout by David Gregory, Associate Director of Public Services and Collections, and William Nixon, Deputy Head of Information Technology Services, Glasgow University Library, Glasgow, U.K. David and William co-presented on the Instruction Commons at the 1st International Conference on IT and Information Literacy, held in Glasgow, U.K. March 20-22, 2002.  William is a noted alum of the Commons, who made many significant contributions to our website during his stay at ISU as an exchange librarian.
