Follow the instructions for Mac OS X (10.3 or 10.4), to download and install the software.
There is a known compatibility problem with Apple Intel-powered computers running Mac OS X Leopard and SciFinder Scholar 2007. CAS has issued a quick fix for the problem.
Click on a filename to download. You may need to hold down the Shift, or Control key while clicking on the filename, or double-click the filename, depending on your browser and/or operating system.
A pop-up box should appear asking for a username and password. Enter the last 11 digits of your ISUCard number in the Username field. Leave the password field empty.
If your browser asks you what you want to do,
choose Save File, and specify a location on your machine in which to save the file.
Windows installation:
To install SciFinder Scholar on your Windows machine, run the downloaded executable sfs2007.exe. Install the application in the destination folder of your choice (default location = c:\SFSCHLR). During installation, when prompted "Do you have a disk labeled Custom Site Files?", answer no.
Following installation, download or move the Windows version site.prf file to your destination location (e.g. c:\SFSCHLR\site.prf, if you installed to the default location).
Mac installation:
Double-click on sfs2007.dmg to mount the disk image (if the dmg file did not automatically mount).
Double-click the SciFinder Scholar icon on the desktop.
Drag and drop the SciFinder Scholar Application Package to your Applications folder.
Delete (Unmount) the Desktop SciFinder Scholar icon.
Following the installation, you will need to move the Macintosh version site.prf file to your install folder, as follows:
Select the SciFinder Scholar icon (an application package) and click the Action button in the finder (it looks like a gear or a flower) to open the Action menu.
Select 'Show Package Contents.' A new finder window with the single folder "Contents" in it opens.
Open the Contents folder.
Drag site.prf onto the MacOS folder.
(Optional) Create an alias for your dock or desktop.
Start the SciFinder Scholar application. If the install was successful, you should see the license agreement, then get automatically connected.
If you have problems or questions about the downloading process, please contact Susan Knippel ((515) 294-9650) in the Parks Library, or call the CAS help desk at 1-800-848-6533.
