MEDLINE -- MEDLINE is the U.S. National Library of Medicine's (NLM) premier bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and preclinical sciences. MEDLINE contains citations and abstracts from more than 4,000 international biomedical journals. There are over 11 million records in the database, dating back to the mid-1960s. MEDLINE can be accessed through a variety of interfaces, each with its own features and capabilities.
Web of Science

The Iowa State University Libraries subscribes to over 29,000 journals. These can be located by searching in the Library's catalog. Some of these journals are available in electronic form. Generally the catalog's record will have a link to the web page of journals that are available on the Internet. Another way to find the electronic journals that the library subscribes to is by going to the e-Journals & e-Books page on the Library's homepage.

Martindale's "Virtual" Veterinary Center -- A wide variety of Web resouces such as dictionaries and glossaries, veterinary curriculum materials, tutorials, and databases.
Open Directory Project. Health. Animal -- Veterinary and alternative medicine resources are arranged by broad categories such as diseases, drugs, products and services, mammals, pets, and veterinarians.
Intute: Health and Life Sciences - Veterinary -- Intute is a network of UK universities and partners whose subjects experts evaluate, describe, and organize Web resources for education and research. Search by title, description, or keywords, or browse by CAB subject headings.

Reference

Consultant -- Dr. Maurice E. White. College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University. A diagnostic support system for veterinary medicine. Database is searchable by diagnosis or by sign/symptom. Records include literature and website references.
Definitions and Abbreviations of Veterinary Terms -- Washington State University. A long list of veterinary-related terms, with definitions. Includes acronyms.
iknowledgenow.com -- Provides full-text access to hundreds of conference papers, articles, classified ads, and other veterinary resources.
Merck Veterinary Manual -- A comprehensive electronic reference for animal care information. Contains over 12,000 indexed topics; includes illustrations.
Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria -- 5th ed., 2005. World Association of Veterinary Anatomists. A unified scientific nomenclature for veterinary anatomy.
PubMed -- National Center for Biotechnology Information, National Library of Medicine. A huge article citation database that includes MEDLINE and OLDMEDLINE records back to the year 1950, with good coverage of the veterinary journal literature. PubMed has many features and provides links to other databases and resources.
Veterinary Market Statistics -- American Veterinary Medical Association. Statistics on U.S. veterinarians, specialists, veterinary practices, education, and pets.

Professional Organizations

American Animal Hospital Association -- An organization of veterinarians, technicians and others who primarily treat companion animals. Web site includes news, publications, AAHA standards, links to state veterinary associations and other useful information. Many site resources are limited to members only.
American Veterinary Medical Association -- News, features, veterinary resources. AVMA members have access to additional resources through NOAH, Network of Animal Health.
Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges -- Career and admissions information, enrollment statistics, links to all U.S. and Canadian veterinary colleges.
United States Animal Health Association -- A science-based, non-profit organization with a mission to protect animal and public health. Its prime objective is to prevent, control, and eliminate livestock diseases. Site includes animal health news alters, press releases, and links to industry, state animal health offices, and other disease information sources.

Governmental Organizations

Animal Welfare Information Center -- National Agricultural Library, USDA. Provides information for improved animal care and use in research, teaching, and testing. Includes sections on alternatives, literature searches, databases, government and legal resources, and lab, farm, zoo, and companion animals.
Center for Veterinary Medicine -- US Food and Drug Administration. News, press releases, FDA guidelines relating to animal drugs, antimicrobial resistance, aquaculture, food safety, and related areas.
OIE: World Organisation for Animal Health -- An intergovernmental organization of 167 member countries responsible for tracking animal diseases on their own territories. OIE collects, analyzes and releases current information on animal disease and disease control. Several of its publications are freely available online.
Veterinary Services -- Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, USDA. Government reports, news, statistics, and general information about the diseases and health of major livestock, poultry, and wildlife species, and food safety.

College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University -- Information about the College, its programs, services, and staff. Sections on academics, students, research, services, animal health, alumni.
Iowa Veterinary Medical Association -- Information about IVMA, an online directory of Iowa veterinarians, calendar of events, classified ads, links to other veterinary Web resources, and a separate "members only" section.
Packer Heritage Room -- College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University. A description of the R. Allen Packer Veterinary Heritage Room and its contents. The Heritage Room can be accessed through the Veterinary Medical Library, 2280 Vet Med Building.
