Hispanic American Periodicals Index -- HAPI Online is an international periodical index providing access to authoritative information and social sciences and humanities research on Latin America, focusing on fields such as anthropology, Latin American Indians and indigenous issues from all time periods, politics and government, foreign relations, business and industry, African diaspora issues, gender studies, history, art, literature, film, environmental issues, and social movements. Some coverage of US Latino journals is also included. HAPI Online contains bibliographic citations to articles, reviews, original literary works, and other materials appearing in more that 400 social science and humanities journals published throughout the world. Most articles are in Spanish, English, or Portuguese; coverage is 1970-present. (ISU only)
Libros en Venta -- Libros en Venta is a database that is similar to Books in Print, but covers Spanish-language books. It includes over 700,000 in-print titles from over 26,000 publishers in 20 Spanish-speaking countries and 18 non-Spanish-speaking countries. Many database records included after 1999 feature book descriptions, tables of contents, and book cover images as well as the standard publication information.
MLA International Bibliography -- Long the standard in its field, the MLA International Bibliography provides access to citations to scholarly articles in numerous languages on the topics of literature, modern languages, linguistics, and folklore gathered from 3,500 journals, series, books, and essay collections. MLA indexes articles, books, working papers and proceedings, and bibliographies dated 1963 to the present. Late Imperial China -- "... the principal scholarly journal for historians of China who specialize in the Ming and Qing dynasties. South Asia Graduate Research Journal (SAGAR) -- A biannual publication featuring scholarly essays and reviews by faculty and graduate students in the Center for Asian Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Topics include South Asian languages and literatures.
Ethnologue -- "The Ethnologue is a catalogue of more than 6,700 languages spoken in 228 countries. The Ethnologue Name Index lists over 39,000 language names, dialect names, and alternate names. The Ethnologue Language Family Index organizes languages according to language families." Developed by the Summer Institute of Linguistics.
Human Languages Page -- Provides access to online dictionaries, language lessons, various tools and resources for 33 languages. Also includes access to computer-generated translations in numerous languages, faulty though those translations may be.
VCU Trail Guide to International Sites & Language Resources -- Classified list of links to resources supporting foreign language and culture studies. These resources include other gateway sites and multimedia. Languages supported include Chines, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish.
Web of Online Dictionaries -- An index to more than 500 on-line dictionaries of over 140 different languages. Site includes a search engine for Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Tenth Edition.
Web of Online Grammars -- Provides access to online grammars of over 60 languages, ranging from commonly taught languages to various North and South American Indian languages, African languages, Greek & Latin, Basque & Catalán, artificial languages, and others.
Animated Chinese Characters -- Web guide tutorial shows how to write various Chinese characters. Also includes character etymologies (called "genealogies"), flashcards, online dictionaries for definitions and pronunciation, and other useful reference tools.
Chinese Pronunciation Guide -- In development: Online tutorials from Dr. Wenze Hu at Harvard help with Chinese pronunciation. Requires RealAudio software and pinyin fonts, both of which are available onsite for downloading.
Chinese Studies Online Resources -- List of online Chinese databases, electronic journals, and various Internet resources, compiled by Harvard's Yenching Library. In English, with links to many resources in Chinese.
Index and Database on Chinese Writers -- This database was created by Renditions: A Chinese-English Translation Magazine. It provides a list of over 500 authors who have appeared in the pages of the journal, with hyperlinks that lead to biographical information. Translators of the material are cross-listed in the database, but without biographical information.

Toronto Slavic Quarterly -- Published by the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at University of Toronto, with the editorial claim that it's "the first academic electronic journal in Slavic Studies." The editors further state that they "will publish prose, poetry, essays and criticism; articles on current issues in literary and academic life; and bibliographical surveys of new books and journal in the Slavic world." Based on the first issue, many of the articles will be presented in Russian.
ARL Latin Americanist Research Resources Pilot Project -- Searchable database provides a table of contents list from over 350 periodicals from Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico, useful for research, verifying citations, and interlibrary loan. Another database available at this site includes digitized images of Mexican and Argentine presidential speeches.
Diccionario Anaya de la Lengua -- Sophisticated online Spanish language dictionary, from Grupo Anaya in Spain. In Spanish only.
Diccionario de Escritores en México -- This is an online resource that gives brief biographical information on many Mexican authors, and also includes partial bibliographies of authors' works. There is an incomplete version of this resource in English; the full version is Spanish-language only.
Handbook of Latin American Studies -- Searchable online version of this massive bibliography leads to citations and annotations to scholarly books, journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers in the social sciences and the humanities on Latin American topics. Produced by the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress; covers 1936 - present.
