The items listed below are among the best current sources for the biological sciences on the Internet. More sources will be added over the months to come.
Biological and Agricultural Index. Provides access to citations in the agricultural and biological literature and related subjects such as ecology, food science, nutrition, and veterinary medicine. Indexes articles, reports of meetings, review articles, special supplements, and book reviews dated 1983 to the present.
Ecology WWW Page -- Provides links to sites of interest to ecologists.
Emerging Infectious Diseases -- A journal tracking trends and analyzing issues related to new and reemerging infectious diseases around the world.
Entrez Browser An online database search engine for retrieving molecular biology-related citations and records from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) databases. Entrez accesses the molecular biology subset of the National Library of Medicine's database of biomedical articles; proteins from worldwide databases; and nucleotides from the NCBI GenBank. Includes search instructions and help files. Links to the NCBI home page and the GenBank Sequence Database home page.
Experimental Biology Online: EBO -- A multimedia journal containing rapid, readable, refereed and rigorous short, topical research papers in the general field of experimental biology in it broadest sense, ranging from the molecular and cellular boundaries in cell and plant biology to the integrative study of whole organism including the experimental analysis of behavior.
Genes & Development -- Publishes research papers of general interest and biological significance in molecular biology, molecular genetics, and developmental biology.
Photobiology Online -- Provides links to other websites with photobiology news, events, articles, books, discussions, societies, research grant opportunities, positions wanted, products and services.
Physiological Reviews -- A journal covering topics in the physiological and biomedical sciences.
PLoS Biology -- PLoS Biology is a peer-reviewed journal covering all areas of biology. It is a groundbreaking journal in which all articles are open access. Everything is immediately available without cost to anyone, anywhere.
PubMed -- A project developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). An experimental search service to access the 9 million citations in MEDLINE and Pre-MEDLINE (with links to participating on-line journals), and other related databases.
Racial/Ethnic Patterns of Cancer in the United States, 1988-1992 -- This monograph provides a concise description of the occurrence of the major cancers among several different racial/ethnic groups in the United States. Age-adjusted incidence and mortality rates are shown graphically by age group and sex for Alaska Native, American Indian (New Mexico), black, Chinese, Filipino, Hawaiian, Hispanic, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, white (total), white Hispanic and white non-Hispanic populations. This landmark report represents the most extensive information yet available on racial and ethnic differences in the cancer experience.
Research Link 2000-- A gateway to online teaching resources targeted to support undergraduate biology courses.
