The Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN) - facilitates and manage National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS), National Animal Germplasm Program (NAGP), National Microbial Germplasm Program (NMGP), and National Invertebrate Germplasm Program (NIGP).
National Animal Germplasm System (NAGS) - mission is "to coordinate the availability, conservation and utilization of animal and aquatic genetic resources in order to provide optimum access to desirable genes and gene complexes that will contribute to the future food and fiber supply."
National Clonal Germplasm Repository - genebank that preserves invaluable plant genetic resources of temperate fruit, nut, and agronomic crops. Notes that cultivars (clones) are stored as growing plants, while wild species are generally preserved as seed. Discusses the activities at the Repository, including tissue culture, cryogenic preservation, pathogen testing, and germplasm evaluation.
National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) - cooperative effort by public (State and Federal) and private organizations to preserve the genetic diversity of plants. The NPGS aids the scientists and the need for genetic diversity byacquiring, preserving, evaluating, documenting, and distributing crop germplasm.
Plant Introduction Station - one of the four regional centers and is part of the National Plant Germplasm System. The station maintains seed (germplasm) collections of 30,000 individual lines.
